AT THE EAGLES CLUB IN MAQUOKETA

Asher Schroeder Video Presentation

ASHER SCHROEDER, WHO WILL BE 89 IN MAY, 2014, WAS BORN AND RAISED IN MAQUOKETA.  AFTER GRADUATING FROM HIGH SCHOOL IN MAQUOKETA HE WENT TO SERVE IN WORLD WAR II.AFTER THE SERVICE HE GOT HIS LAW DEGREE FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA, WAS  JACKSON COUNTY ATTORNEY FOR 3 TERMS AND WAS APPOINTED BY PRESIDENT JOHNSON TO BE A U.S.  ATTORNEY FOR THE NORTHERN DISTRICT OF IOWA. UPON RETIREMENT, HE AND HIS WIFE CATHERINE RETIRED TO MAQUOKETA.    THEY HAD 3 SONS. HIS WIFE DIED QUITE A FEW YEARS AGO AND HE REMAINS ACTIVE AS A MEMBER (PAST PRESIDENT) OF THE JACKSON COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY  AND TREASURER OF THE MAQUOKETA ROTARY CLUB. HE SERVED WITH THE US ARMY 4TH INFANTRY DIVISION AND IN 1944 WAS WOUNDED IN ACTION AND TAKEN TO A POW CAMP.HIS DESCRIPTION OF HIS MILITARY LIFE IN 1944 AND INTO 1945 WAS PRESENTED AT A JANUARY ROTARY MEETING AND AGAIN AT A MAQUOKETA STATE BANK STAFF MEETING ON JANUARY 31, 2014.

9/11 Flag of Heros Presentation

VFW Post 3633 presenting The Maquoketa Fire Dept. a 9/11 Flag of Heros with the names of the Police, Firefighters and Emergency Services Professionals who perished in the terrorist attacks of 9/11/2001. The 10th Anniversary Flag was presented to the Maquoketa Firemen by Post 3633 Commander Tom Watters, Jr. Vice Commander Jay Ostrander and Quartermaster Rodger Schnoor.
Flags were also presented to the Maquoketa Police Department and to the Maquoketa Hospital Paramedics
 
 

  "VOICE OF DEMOCRACY"  LOCAL WINNER, ERICA DRAKE. ERICA'S 4-MINUTE SPEECH IS NOW GOING ON THE DISTRICT COMPETITION. LAST NIGHT SHE WAS PRESENTED A CERTIFICATE BY ROGER SCHNOOR, POST QUARTERMASTER AND A CHECK FOR $150.00.

ERICA IS A JUNIOR AT BELLEVUE HIGH SCHOOL AND THE DAUGHTER OF MARK AND LINDA DRAKE OF RURAL MAQUOKETA.

THIS IS THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW FOR HER TO BE THE WINNER.

ALL STATE POST, COMMANDER AND QUARTERMASTER 

 Post 3633 was awarded the distinction of being one of 14 Posts in the state of Iowa to achieve All State status for the 2010-2011 membership year. Post 3633 achieved 100%+ in membership and met all State VFW requirements to gain this award. Pictured below on the left is Post Quartermaster Rodger Schnoor with his 8th All State Quartermasters citation and on the right is Post Commander Tom Watters with the Post All State citation and his All State Commanders citation.
